Adair County Criminal Court Records
An Adair County criminal court record is the court case file, not just the initial arrest or booking event. District Court handles misdemeanors, violations, arraignments, felony probable-cause hearings, traffic matters, and many early criminal events. Circuit Court handles felonies and capital offenses. A felony case may begin with District Court activity and then move to Circuit Court after indictment or transfer. The Office of Circuit Court Clerk supports record access for both local court levels.
Criminal court records can show charges as filed, amended charges, bond, pleas, motions, hearings, trial events, disposition, sentence, probation terms, fines, costs, and warrant or failure-to-appear alerts when visible in the system. For a closer focus on the arrest-to-charges path, use the Adair County arrest records and court charges page. For broader civil, family, probate, traffic, and criminal case access, use the Adair County court records page.
The Adair County Attorney page identifies the local county prosecutor role and office contact.
The County Attorney context helps explain misdemeanor and local prosecution roles, while felony prosecution is tied to the Commonwealth's Attorney for the 29th Judicial Circuit.
Search Adair County Criminal Records
Criminal court records can be searched through KYeCourts guest access and CourtNet. Use party search when the defendant name is known. Use case-number search when the exact case number is available. CourtNet help says a case-number search requires county plus case number and cannot be run statewide by case number alone. If a case is disposed, sealed, too old, or limited to certain users, online guest access may not show the full file.
- Start with KYeCourts guest access for public trial court case information.
- Select party search or case-number search based on the information known.
- Choose ADAIR when searching a known Adair County criminal case.
- Open the case number result and review charges, events, next court event, disposition, and alerts.
- Use the docket portal separately for hearing-date checks.
- Request certified copies or unavailable records from the Adair Circuit Court Clerk.
The AOC criminal record report is a different tool. The Kentucky AOC background check page says reports may include county of origin, case number, original charge, amendments, disposition, charge date, disposition date, and memos, but the report is not the official court record.
Adair County Criminal Case Flow
Criminal court records are easier to read when the case stage is clear. A charge may be filed by complaint, citation, information, or indictment. District Court may handle first appearances, misdemeanor cases, violations, and felony probable-cause hearings. Felony prosecutions move through Circuit Court after indictment or transfer. Each stage can leave a docket event or filing in the case file, but not every document is public online.
Case flow: Charges Filed › Arraignment › Pretrial / Motions › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing
| Stage | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Charges Filed | The prosecution or charging process starts the court case or moves it toward court review. |
| Arraignment | The defendant is advised of charges, plea issues may be addressed, and bond may be reviewed. |
| Pretrial / Motions | The parties file requests, exchange information, seek rulings, or set further hearings. |
| Plea or Trial | The case resolves by plea, dismissal, acquittal, or trial verdict. |
| Disposition | The court records the outcome of the charge or case. |
| Sentencing | The court enters punishment, conditions, fines, costs, probation, or other terms after conviction. |

Adair Charges vs Convictions
A charge is an accusation filed in court. A conviction is an outcome that establishes guilt by plea or finding. Adair County criminal court records may show charges that were amended, reduced, dismissed, or resolved without conviction. This distinction matters because a person can have a public case entry or charge event without a final conviction. Always read the disposition and sentence fields before drawing a conclusion from a charge list.
| Topic | Charge | Conviction |
|---|---|---|
| Meaning | An allegation filed in court. | A final guilt result by plea or finding. |
| Timing | Appears near the start or during amendment. | Appears after plea, trial, or other final outcome. |
| Record reading | Check amendments and dismissals. | Check sentence and final disposition. |
| Public access | Often public unless restricted. | Often public unless sealed or expunged. |
Note: A listed charge should not be read as a conviction unless the disposition supports that result.
Adair County Criminal Case Offices
Several offices can appear around an Adair County criminal court record. The County Attorney, Jennifer Hutchison-Corbin, is relevant to misdemeanors, county-level prosecution, child support, victim services, and local government legal functions. The Attorney General listing identifies the 29th Judicial Circuit Commonwealth's Attorney as Hon. Brian Wright for Adair and Casey counties, which is relevant to felony prosecutions in Circuit Court. The public defender function is separate from both prosecutor offices.
The Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy Columbia Trial Office serves Adair County along with other counties in the region. The research identifies Directing Attorney Samantha Costello, phone 833-254-2467, address 111 Jamestown St., Columbia, KY 42728, and fax 270-384-1478. DPA Trial Division representation covers indigent adult criminal, juvenile, contempt, and involuntary commitment matters. Appointment questions should be directed to the court handling the case or the Columbia Trial Office.

The Kentucky Attorney General attorneys page lists Commonwealth's Attorney assignments for Kentucky judicial circuits.
That source helps separate felony prosecution in Circuit Court from the County Attorney role in lower-level criminal matters.
Read Adair Criminal Dispositions
Disposition is the outcome of a charge or case. In an Adair County criminal court record, disposition may show dismissal, guilty plea, not guilty finding, acquittal, amendment, or another final result. The sentence field, if present, explains what the court imposed after conviction. That may include jail, probation, fines, costs, restitution, payment plans, or conditions. A case may also include financial entries and ePay eligibility for certain fines or costs.
Disposition dates and charge dates can appear in AOC criminal record reports, but those reports are summaries. CourtNet and certified clerk records may provide more complete case events. When the record is being used for court, licensing, immigration, agency review, or another formal purpose, request the official copy through the Circuit Court Clerk rather than relying on a screen result.
- Disposition
- The court-recorded outcome of a charge or case.
- Sentence
- The punishment or conditions imposed after conviction.
- Probation
- Supervised release under court-ordered conditions.
- Failure to Appear
- Missing a required court date, which can lead to alerts or warrants.
Sealed and Expunged Criminal Records
Sealed and expunged records are not ordinary public lookup records. A sealed record is hidden from routine public access by law or court order. An expunged record is removed from public access under a statutory process and may be treated as though it did not occur for many public purposes. AOC background-check guidance says expunged or purged cases do not appear in AOC criminal record reports.
| Topic | Sealed | Expunged |
|---|---|---|
| Visibility | Hidden from ordinary public access. | Removed from public access under the expungement order. |
| Record status | May still exist for limited court or agency use. | Public reporting is removed under statutory conditions. |
| Kentucky examples | Juvenile, adoption, dependency, mental health, or court-sealed files. | Eligible convictions or non-conviction charges under expungement statutes. |
| Public search result | May be absent, redacted, or blocked. | Should not appear as an ordinary public result after processing. |
Access to Adair Criminal Records
Kentucky public-record access is broad, but it has important limits. KRS 61.872 provides a public inspection rule for Kentucky residents when no exception applies. KRS 61.878 lists exemptions. KRS 61.880 sets the response process for open-record requests. For criminal case copies, the Kentucky Court of Justice says requests start with the clerk of the court that heard the case.
Criminal-specific restrictions also matter. Juvenile court records are restricted by KRS 610.340. Kentucky expungement statutes include KRS 431.073, KRS 431.076, and KRS 431.078. Domestic violence, mental health, adoption, dependency, termination, sealed, and expunged matters may not appear in public criminal court record searches.
Adair Criminal Record Copies
The official record custodian for Adair County criminal court records is the Office of Circuit Court Clerk for the court that heard the case. The Kentucky Court of Justice Adair page names Dennis Loy as Circuit Court Clerk at the Adair County Judicial Center. Use the clerk when the record is not online, a guest search is limited, a certified copy is needed, or an older record may have moved to storage. If a case is at the State Records Center, the requester needs case or file locator numbers from the clerk because those stored records cannot be searched by name alone.

Columbia, KY 42728

Criminal case files should not be confused with sheriff records. The Adair County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Gary Roy, is a law-enforcement office. The Adair County Clerk handles county recordings and marriage licenses, not criminal case dockets or certified criminal court copies.
Kentucky Supreme Court Administrative Order 2026-15 changes court fees effective July 1, 2026, so current copy and certification costs should be confirmed before payment. The local Adair page lists cash, check, money order, and ePay as payment options for eligible court payments.
Restricted Adair Criminal Court Files
Restricted Adair County criminal court files require careful handling. Juvenile cases, mental health matters, domestic violence case types, sealed records, and expunged records should not be described as open public search records. A missing online result can mean the case is restricted, disposed and unavailable to guest users, stored elsewhere, entered under a different search term, or not in the system visible to the public. It should not be treated as proof that no record exists.
When access is uncertain, use the court that handled the case. The clerk can explain whether a record is public, sealed, expunged, stored, or available only to a party, attorney, agency, or person with a court order. For active criminal defense questions, contact counsel or the Department of Public Advocacy office if the defendant may qualify for appointed representation.
